15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[f] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. Have you ever struggled to breathe? Suffered an asthma attack? Been stuck under water? Had the breath knocked out of you? When you finally were able to fill your lungs with air again, what did you feel? Did your perspective of breathing—the regular in-and-out of everyday respiration—change? Why?
APPLY THE Scripture :: READ Ephesians 1:19-20— What prayer request on behalf of the church does the apostle mention in verses 19-20 ?
Q1— How is “the hope to which He has called you” different from hoping that your team wins the big game or hoping you get a raise?
Q2—Why do you think that Paul gave such thanks to the Lord upon hearing of the Ephesian Christians’ faith in the Jesus, and their love for the saints??
Q3— Not only does God initiate a relationship with us, but He also wants us to grow in our knowledge of Him. Describe a recent circumstance, conversation, or experience that caused you to know Him better – more personally and intimately.?
Q4— How does the “dark mirror” image of 1 Corinthians 13 fit with the “eyes enlightened” language of Ephesians 1:18? ?
Q5—What’s the best thing you can do for someone else to help them have this kind of hope??
