24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:
27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
CONNECT GROUP
ICEBREAKER—
Let's kick things off with a name game. Have everyone say their first name and attach an activity or memory from summer that starts with the first letter of their name (Ex. Brittney Bungee Jumping, Nate Netflix). Then have everyone talk about their memory. Make it fun!
APPLY THE Scripture : Read James 1:22 . How does this scripture connect with Matthew 7:24-27? What does it mean to you?
Q1— In Matthew 7:24, Jesus says, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine…” What words are these? What is the context for this passage? ?
Q2—. Who are some people in your life that you go to for advice? Why do you go to them?
Q3— What are some distractions that keep us from making good choices in life? Ask for multiple examples. ?
Q4— There are two men in our parable. The wise man and the foolish man. What would you say to the ‘foolish man’ to help him build a better house?! Is there someone you know who you could help find Jesus and build their life on him?
A LITTLE Building HOMEWORK:
There is always more for us to learn and receive from God. Break into smaller groups and share with each other:- i) a time when your house was hit by a storm ii) how knowing Jesus and being immersed in His teaching made you able to stand strong. iii) What did the Lord teach you through the storm that sured up your faith and trust in Him?
